Vintage Antique Collectible Watches

For thousands of years, time was measured and kept track of by humankind. The wristwatch was invented by Patek Philippe, in 1868, but his watch was really just a jewelry bracelet and referred to as a lady’s bracelet watch. Louis Cartier created the Santos wristwatch in 1904 and it was the first man's wristwatch designed for practical use. During World War 1 Officers made wristwatches more popular as they were more suitable to carry in battle than pocket watches. This led to contractors manufacturing watches for both the infantry and pilots. During  World War II, a watch known as the A-11 became popular with American airmen because of its easy to read black face and clear white numbers.

Today collectors of antique vintage watches enjoy a wide variety of styles and manufacturers.  Vintage watches and vintage pocket watches as a collectible can be very rewarding.  Finding rare collectible watches is a thrilling and lucrative hobby.
